Here's an interesting article from 1903 on a newly arrived immigrant "Jargon poet," Yehoash i.e., Solomon Bloomgarden (1870-1927).

    MAR GAVRIEL:

    brooklyn had only recently become a nyc borough (1898) and still had a very independent identity. ever notice how older people in brooklyn (probably in other boroughs also) refer to manhattan as "new york"?

    even today officially "new york county" refers to manhattan (brooklyn is "kings county")

    and postally speaking, manhattan is "new york, ny" brooklyn is "brooklyn, ny," etc.

    Not sure the automatic mobile version is such a good idea with all the pictures, with an android for example, if you are trying to scroll to the sides to see an entire image, you can end up pushing to far which automatically takes you to the next post.
