From an article called 'Indianer-Juden in Mexiko' by Leah Brenner , in a German American Jewish periodical called Aufbau, November 15, 1940.

  1. Looks like a Christen field alter, just with other props.

  2. The complete article can be found here: http://deposit.d-nb.de/cgi-bin/exilframe.pl?ansicht=3&zeitung=aufbau&jahrgang=06&ausgabe=46&seite=08170009.
The "Jews" in question are the Indian Jews of Venta Prieta and other isolated Mexican communities, whose origins may or may not go back to the Crypto-Jews of colonial Mexico.

"Aufbau" itself is an interesting cultural artifact. Once it primarily served the German Jewish community centered in Washington Heights, but it's now a monthly magazine with editorial offices in Zurich, New York, Berlin, and Jerusalem, with a web version at aufbauonline.com.
