According to Marc Shapiro's bio, he never completed his doctorate under Kahle.
I know, but also according to Marc Shapiro, he used the title himself, and Paul Kahle used it to refer to him in print (a search for "dr. j. j. weinberg" will turn up the result in The Cairo Geniza).
>According to Marc Shapiro's bio, he never completed his doctorate under Kahle. There are many who have completed doctorates and are unworthy of the term. Many who have not and are.
>According to Marc Shapiro's bio, he never completed his doctorate under Kahle.BTW, He did submit a doctorate and it was tentatively accepted with the condition that he make a few changes which he never re-submitted. One could say that he did not get it on a technicality.Similar thing happened with HaRav HaNazir zt"l. He submitted his doctorate and if was a few pages short of the required length. He refused to pad it in order to get the title so it was never accepted.
