Who is this boy?

Edit: As Andy knew, it is Rabbi Elyashiv. If he was 8 as my source indicated, this means it was taken in 1918.

Here is, incidentally, the signature of a letter his father sent to my grandfather's father in 1924:

  2. True. Since this was not exactly igniting the world's curiosity, the answer is here. Now that the cat's out of the bag, I'll add a more recent photo. I think once you know, you can tell. Shkoyach Reb Chaim for at least playing the game, and thanks to Andy for not ending it too early.

Strangely, he kind of looks like my grandfather at about that age; not just the post, certain features.

  3. How/where did you find the picture?

  4. Interesting. It's been a few months since I've seen Rav Elyashiv up close and personal (I was there Shabbos Shuva in his shul). What's the source of the picture?

This looks very similar to this picture of Rav Eliyashov in this link.

How in the world did you figure it out?

  9. mdj- I suspect that I received the same article as Fred. I just wanted to give a hint as no one had got it yet. I wonder who Fred's elte-zaide was.

  10. Fred, who was your great-grandfather that corresponded with the Leshem's son-in-law?

  11. Sorry that I never answered. I want to keep my privacy, but I will say that the name most likely wouldn't ring a bell to all but experts in Yerushalayim history, unless I am myself so far from such an expert that I don't even appreciate my ancestor's "fame."

    Email me.
