This is from the newspaper "The New Times" - which had the delicious motto "Not Connected With Paper Called 'the Times'" on its masthead, by the way.
How do you know it wasn't the axe? Is this in Germany or France?
According to Wikipedia, in 1818 Colmar was part of France (until 1871) and the capital of the Departement of Haut-Rhin. But guillotines were also in use in Germany: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guillotine#Verwendung_in_Deutschland
So interesting. Do we know any details about the murder?
They didn't consider it murder but justice. Those were different times, hard to imagine today except for states like Iran or China.Oh, that murder.
