  2. If you would have said "Kseevim" to Isaac M. Wise he probably would have slapped you.

  3. Is this the haftorah for pashas Lincoln or Shabbos Lincoln?

  4. So, does anyone want to give a drasha on why Nechemia 6:10-12 relates to Lincoln in March 1861? Did Steven Spielberg cover it?

  5. How would I. M. Wise have pronounced it? "Ketubim"? "Kethubim"? "Kesuvim"?

  6. My guess is he would have - tried - to pronounce it "kethubeem." But if he was really saying it or reading it, like a Boehmishe Yid, whatever that was.

  7. I'm guessing that the significance of this is that Lincoln was inaugurated in March 1861, and that passage in Nehemiah is about Nehemiah being intimidated by people. Perhaps Lincoln was being intimidated at that time about any number of things, perhaps about his position on slavery.

It's eerily predictive of his death by assassination, though.

  8. Ahh, I see now that he was in fact threatened by assassination before, directly prior to his March inaugural speech:
