Portrait of the artist as a young mapmaker.

Here's the famous self-portrait of Ya'akov ben Avraham Zaddik (aka Jaacob Justo) in his 1621 map of the land of Israel printed in Amsterdam. You can read his entire inscription by clicking the image below to enlarge it. See the complete map here.

  2. Yeah. I read that article, and with all respect to Katzeleh, the first thing I thought was that he was dead wrong about thinking our ancesotrs were chareidim. But I saw already a few people in the comments already pointed it out.
