A Hebraist in Hebrew garb

Did you ever wonder how Buxtorf* vocalized his* name? Wonder no longer.

In Latin letters, "Boqesedorph." From Institutio Epistolaris Hebraica (Basel 1629).

* Although there was a Johann Buxtorf, father and son, and this book and thus this vocalization is from the son, for all intents and purposes one would assume that the father vocalized his name in this manner as well.

  1. That's from 1629? I've seen poorer quality font that is 330 years newer!

  2. On the contrary, older is (often) better quality. Why should fonts be better now?
