  1. So, where did he go to HS?

  2. Also, I hope that the fact that this post is at top is a good sign.

  3. Riverdale High? I wonder if he knew Archie.

At any rate, I can forgive the no yarmulke, but not being an "academocrat".

  4. Just a joke. (But you got the reference.) I am informed that he "probably" went to HTC-Skokie (since my informant knows that his brother did).

I don't think that's no yarmulke. He wasn't a modernish bum who puts the yarmulke in front of the head.

  5. Indeed he was in Ida crown not Skokie. My mother on law was on his class

  6. I had actually heard that he attended Ida Crown Jewish Academy (Chicago).

  7. Is this what he looked like when he married R Beinish Finkels daughter? Can you imagine a girl growing up in Mea Shearim marrying this person?

His wifes cousin R Elya Baruch Finkel married a girl from NY (Lawrence)

This is a really great find.

  8. Taking a closer look the picture he seems to be wearing a knitted yarmulke slanted a bit to the right side of his head (our left).

  9. I'm sure he is. The idea that someone would not be wearing a yarmulke in his HS yearbook photo in any Orthodox school in 1959 is surely ludicrous.

  10. I put the picture up on RNZF's wikipedia page.

  11. In case anyone's reading this - here's an interesting question. I noticed that in much coverage, from the yeshivishe side, there has been recognition that he was "an American kid" and look how high he soared.

My question is, would this have been what people were saying if this photograph had not been widely distributed?

I know that many people have said that R. Nosson Zvi was open about his origins, was mechazek people by referencing it and so forth - still, I can't help but wonder if not for this picture if that would have been part of the story repeated after his petirah. Could the dissemination of this picture have actually influenced the way talmidim have been speaking about a deceased odom godol?

  12. Back in the day, the school was called the Chicago Jewish Academy. I am also class of 1960 and the idea that Natie would not wear a yarmulke in his graduation picture is preposterous.
