The Chareidi Jews of Baghdad

In the most recent Hamodia there is a piece on the late R. Kadouri zt"l which reads, regarding his childhood circa 1900:
He learned in the Zilka beis medrash, where the chareidi Jews of Baghdad studied.
Anachronism alert!

I am well aware that the term chareidi had already come into existence by 1900. But I am reasonably certain that Baghdadi Jews did not call themselves nor were they called by outsiders chareidim.

Hat tip: an email list. I don't know if the poster would want to be named, so I won't unless he or she emails me and says that I could attribute it.
