In my family, at least, we sing "dizabin abba" even though there are occasional haggadas that say "dizban." I'm intrigued that the first printing (and the handwritten addition, for that matter) has "dizabin abba" (i.e. abba sold).

But I'm amazed that the translation is "hat gekauft"! I wonder if the reason why the version he saw did not include the last three is because its source was the Wunderhorn, which included the Hebrew in two of the final three verses. Perhaps whomever it was that republished it wished to hide its Jewish origin; conversely, perhaps they wished to obscure that the source for it could not be definitively established as non-Jewish."

perhaps, as I discuss here, but we can add support to the idea that shochet, malach hamaves, and hakadosh baruch hu are additions on the basis of the switch from Aramaic to Hebrew. (shochet instead of tabach; hamaves with a heh definite article, and the same for hakadosh baruch hu.) And we can show this as well from and the uninspired verbs veshachat, not even vetavach, instead of different verbs, in constrast to the verbs up to that point. That is text-internal evidence of two strata within the song. That this accords with a split in which a German song does not have it...

kt,
joshjosh waxmanhttp://parsha.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12600498.post-90051083422871112542010-04-07T18:27:05.725-04:002010-04-07T18:27:05.725-04:00Yes.
