A eulogy for the recently departed Rabbiner Hirsch.
Here's a Hesped (eulogy sermon) upon the death of Rabbi Samson Raphael Hirsch, which was delivered at a memorial service for him on January 20, 1889. You can download it here as a pdf.
Rabbi Hymamson was for many years both the Rav of an Orthodox Synagogue in NYC and Professor of Codes at JTS.I don't think Rabbi Hirsch would have approved.
Surely not, but of course in 1889 he was not at JTS. I also wonder if R. Hirsch would have perceived JTS in 1889 as more like Breslau or more like Berlin, notwithstanding that he didn't approve of either.
